YALE
Yale University is a private American Ivy League research university located in New Haven, Connecticut.It was founded in the year 1701 in Say brook Colony as a Collegiate School. The university is the 3rd oldest institution for higher education in the United States of America.Later the school was renamed Yale College in 1718 as for the recognition of a gift from Elihu Yale (governor of the British East India Company). Established to train Congregationalist ministers in the field of theology and sacred languages, by the year 1777 the school's curriculum started to incorporate humanities and sciences. In the nineteenth century the school incorporated graduates and professional instructors, awarding the first P.H.D. in the United States in 1861 and organizing as a university in 1887.
Yale has been organized into fourteen different constituent schools: the undergraduate college, the Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and 12 professional schools. As the university is watched upon by the Yale Corporation, each and every school's faculty oversees its curriculum and degree programs.
Yale has a central campus in downtown New Haven, with athletic facilities in western New Haven, also including the Yale Bowl, a campus in West Haven, Connecticut, and finally the forest and nature preserves all over New England. The university's assets also include an bequest valued at $25.6 billion as of September 2015 which is the second largest of any educational institution.Yale Library,which serves all constituent schools, holds about 15 million volumes and is the 3rd largest academic library all over the United States.
In 2014, Yale had over 385 registered student organizations, also an additional one hundred groups in the process of registration.
The university hosts a variety of student magazines , journals, and newspapers. Established in 1872, The Yale Record is considered the world's oldest humor magazine available now. Newspapers like the Yale Daily News, was first published in 1878, and Yale Herald on weekly basis, which was first published in the year 1986. Dwight Hall recognized as an independent, non-profit community service organization, overlook more than 2,000 undergraduates working on 70 community service initiatives in New Haven.
The College Council runs many agencies that overlook campus vast activities and student services. The Yale Dramatic Association and Bulldog Productions gratify to the theater and movie communities, respectively. In addition, the Yale Drama Coalition also assidt to coordinate and provide resources for the various Sudler Fund sponsored film productions which run every weekend. WYBC Yale Radio is the campus's radio station owned, operated by students.
