INTRODUCTION ON HARVARD UNIVERSITY


Harvard University is a private research university in Cambridge, Massachusetts (US), established in the year 1636, whose history, influence and wealth have made it one of the world's most prestigious universities.



Established initially by the Massachusetts legislature and soon thereafter named for John Harvard , Harvard is the  oldest institution of higher learning, and the Harvard Corporation ( the President and Fellows from the  Harvard College) is its first chartered corporation in the United States.

UNDERGRADUATE COST AND FINANCIAL AID


Those families with students on scholarship pay an average of only $11,500 annually toward the cost of a Harvard education. More than about 65% of Harvard College students receive scholarship aid, and the average grant this year is $46,000.  
Since the year 2007, Harvard university's investment in financial aid has climbed by more than 70%, from $96.6 million to $166 million every year.
During the academic year 2012-2013 , students from families with incomes below $65,000, and  assets that are typical for only that type of income level, will generally pay nothing toward the cost of attending Harvard College.  Those families with incomes ranging between $65,000 and $150,000 will contribute only 0% to 10% of income, depending on their  individual circumstances. Also significant financial aid  is available for families above those income ranges.
Harvard College created a net price calculator into which applicants and their families can enter their financial data to estimate the exact net  price that they will are expected to pay for a year at Harvard. 
The total (2015-2016) average cost of attending Harvard College without any financial aid is approximatly $45,278 for tuition and $60,659 for tuition, room, board and fees combined.


LIBRARIES AND MUSEUM

Widener Library anchors the Harvard University Library system. Harvard University Library system is consolidated at Widener Library in Harvard Yard and comprises nearly eighty individual libraries that can hold over eighteen million volumes. According to the American Library Association, this makes it the biggest academic library in the whole United States, and also one of the largest in the world . Lamont Library, Cabot Science Library,  and Widener Library are 3 of the most popular libraries for undergraduates to use, with easy access and with central locations. There are rare manuscripts, book  and other special collections throughout Harvard's libraries. Houghton Library, the Harvard University Archives and  the Arthur and Elizabeth Schlesinger's Library on the History of Women in America holds the  principally of rare and unique materials. America's oldest collection of maps, gazetteers, and atlases  old and new is stored in the Pusey Library and open to the public. The largest collection of East-Asian language material which is outside of East Asia is held in the Harvard-Yenching Library.

UNIVERSITY AND RANKING

Harvard has been highly ranked in many university rankings list. In particular, it has consistently topped the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) since the year 2003, and the The World Reputation Rankings since 2011, when the first time such league tables were published. The time when the QS and Times were published in partnership as the The - QS World University Rankings during the year 2004-2009, this university had also been regarded the first in every year. The University's undergraduate program has been continually among the top two in the U.S. News & World Report. In the year 2014, Harvard topped the University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP). It was ranked eighth on the 2013-2014 Pay Scale College Salary Report and fourteenth on the year of 2013 Pay Scale College Education Value Rankings. From a poll done by The Princeton Review, Harvard is the second most commonly called "dream college", for students as well as for parents in the year 2013, and was the 1st university nominated by parents in 2009. In the year  2011, the Mines ParisTech : Professional Ranking World Universities ranked Harvard first university in the world in contrast to the number of alumni holding CEO position in Fortune Global 500 companies.
